EQUIP-TCM: Employing QUalitative analysis in Understanding InterPersonal mindfulness in a Traditional Chinese Medicine encounter
  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore ways in which interpersonal mindfulness and other foundations of healing are manifested during the TCM encounter and how they may affect the practitioner-patient relationship and support health equity and quality of life.

MAPLE: Metabolics, Acer Production, & Lifestyle Evaluation
  • Purpose: To expand maple-sugaring activities at a national, nature-based cancer support nonprofit; increase metabolomic understanding of sap chemical composition variation related to sap harvest timing and geographic region; and 3) advance producer knowledge of cancer survivor consumer attitudes and perceptions of using sap-related products for hydration and health promotion purposes.

MENTE CALMA Colombia: Advancing Understanding and Implementation of Digital Mindfulness Applications in Colombian Cancer Care
  • Purpose: To support global integrative oncology research by collecting implementation feasibility and acceptability data of the 9-week Spanish-language Wakeful app in a mixed sample of young adult cancer survivors (n=30) between 18-39, using a single arm pre-post test design with partners in Bogota, Colombia.

MENTE CALMA Chicago: Advancing Understanding and Implementation of Digital Mindfulness Applications with Spanish Speaking Cancer Survivors in the Greater Chicago Area
  • Purpose: Evaluate the implementation feasibility and acceptability of the 9-week Spanish-translated mindfulness program, Wakeful, in a mixed Chicagoland cancer survivor sample. Specifically this study examined the feasibility and acceptability of offering weekly Zoom-based “meet up” sessions (moderated by a Spanish speaking mindfulness-trained facilitator) in conjunction with using the Wakeful-Spanish app with Spanish speaking cancer survivors. Meet-ups allow participants to ask questions, share challenges and insights, and connect with others. Multiple meet-up opportunities were offered each week to accommodate participant schedules.

REASSURE ME: Reducing the Effects of Active Surveillance Stress, Uncertainty and Rumination thru Engagement in Mindfulness Education
  • Purpose: To conduct a partially blinded, multi-site randomized controlled clinical trial to examine the efficacy of mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) for men diagnosed with prostate cancer on active surveillance and their spouses compared to a time/attention-matched health promotion control condition.

Mind-Body Health in Uro-Oncology

  • Purpose: To expand  on our previous structured stress reduction study for all patients with localized prostate, kidney and bladdercancer and their spouses. We also collected stress biomarkers (whole blood samples) at baseline, 8-weeks and 6 months to measure associated changes in C-Reactive Protein and IL-6.

URO-QOL: Urological Outcomes and Quality of Life

  • Purpose: To implement a serial data collection protocol to support the systematic assessment of important patient reported outcomes of individuals diagnosed with urological oncology conditions (prostate cancer and tumors/cancer of the testis, bladder or kidney). Also, to prospectively profile quality of life outcomes before and following treatment for major urological cancers: kidney, bladder, testis and prostate.
