David Victorson was invited to attend an NCI-sponsored workshop held by the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS). The workshop brought together new extramural investigators funded by DCCPS who received their first NCI Research Project Grants (R01) in FY 2016 and FY 2017. The primary goals of the workshop were to help build a strong and vibrant cancer control research program and to help advance new investigator’s careers. The workshop convened experts from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and NCI, and more than 40 new grantees.
David Victorson was selected to join a group of cancer nonprofit volunteer representatives to deliver a unified message to Congress and the White House on the need for increased cancer-related appropriations. He will receive training on legislative issue and advocacy methods and spend a full day meeting with legislators to share the human face of cancer in America. The personal stories of these trained advocates underscores the need for continue government involvement in the war against cancer.
